Do I have to be a member of the ISOSC to enrol in the CSS Course? Yes. It is mandatory that you are a member. Membership is free.
Why should you earn the CSS? It is critical for all swimming coaches to have a fundamental understanding of the adaptive response to swimming training / exercise and the role that coach plays in the acute and chronic response to exercise. The art of coaching and in-depth knowledge of exercise science are intimately related in swimming coaching. You can not provide the best training on one aspect without knowing the other. Swimming coaching is its own unique field that requires academic and real-world specialization and training.
Is the CSS exam recognized? The CSS is a new course and certification which is recognised by the ISOSC. The CSS has been coordinated by Exercise Scientists who have exceeded academically and also in the applied area of swimming coaching. The course has been setup with highly experienced educators from Australia. By passing a difficult-to-obtain exam and other assessment items, you gain instant credibility and an edge amongst swimming coaches who have earned a less challenging and less respected certification.Passing a challenging exam demonstrates your level of commitment to the industry and your career, helps to substantiate your competency level to others and proves that you are indeed qualified to perform the tasks expected of you.
What are the requirements to be eligible to take the CSS examination?
You have a 3-4 year undergraduate degree in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, biology, or related biological science.
Can I still take the CSS examination even if I do not meet the initial requirements?
Alternatively, if you meet ALL of the requirements below (and do not have a 3-4-year degree), you can take the CSS exam.
· The individual must be practicing in the field for at least five years and be a member of The ISOSC.
· Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist via National Strength and Conditioning Association

The purpose of the CSS is to demonstrate a threshold level of knowledge in the field of swimming coaching. There are currently no individuals with the CSS. Legally, swimming coaches can and do provide swimming coaching for the purpose of enhancing physical performance as well as enjoyment.
Do you have to score 100% to pass? If you pass the 300-question (multiple choice, true or false format) examination and other assessments with a score of 70% or higher, you will be awarded the CSS.
How do you prepare for the CSS?
By completing all course tasks and revising recommended readings.
